EXPLANATION ABOUT THE CHOICE OF 'THE HANDS' IMAGE

The main connection is the word 'RENAISSANCE'

Renaissance means 'a new birth, a revival'

Renaissance is most directly associated with the activity and the spirit or time of the great revival of art and learning in Europe during the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries
marking the transition from the medieval to the modern world

.
Of this period many believe the most significant was the Italian Renaissance which took place in the 15th century.

The word was originally used in the name Design Renaissance because our original aim (which we were successful in achieving) was to produce a new design and method for real estate signage (a new birth or revival in its design). Hence we designed framing, installation, production, graphic design, and transportation methods which were then copied by many of our competitors. We also introduced the use of photographic images on signs from day one ten years ago when all signage was 'text only'.

The image of the two hands reaching for each other was chosen because of its association with the word 'renaissance'.

The hands image is a small part of a very large fresco painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. The fresco depicts the creation of the world (among other themes). The particular part the hands image is taken from describes the creation of Adam (or man generally) be God. Adams hand is on the left and Gods is on the right.

The above image shows a detail of the Sistine Chapel ceiling with Adam and God centre top.

The Sistine Chapel ceiling was painted between 1508 and 1512 by Michelangalo who was a very high profile painter / sculptor / architect of the Italian Renaissance period. Of course he had lots of assistants to help him. The work was commissioned by Pope Julius the 2nd.

The hands image was chosen because it is one of a small number of more highly recognisable images that are associated with the Italian Renaissance period. It's also a bit different and a bit 'arty' which connects with what we do at Design Renaissance.
