Vacuum Press Laminating
Design Renaissance has quite a unique piece of equipment at its disposal in the form of a large format hot bed vacuum laminating press.
The large format vacuum press is a unique piece of equipment which enables us to laminate the usual 2 dimensional materials and also low profile solid objects to a rigid substrate thereby enabling such materials to be displayed but at the same time protected from touching or theft. Examples of the sort of things that can be laminated by this method include fabrics and lace, coins, fleece and leather samples, plant specimens, soil specimens, nuts and bolts and nails etc etc.
This process can be done over the top of digitally printed images and graphics or computer cut graphics can be added after the laminating process.
The substrates using can be anything that can withstand the heating process such as MDF board, maisonite, solid timber, metal sheet, glass sheet etc. The press can handle substrate 1500mm X 2100mm.
The laminating process is a static one with heat and cushioned vertical pressure applied to the materials. This means fragile or carefully and individually placed items can be laminated without disturbing them in the process (as is the case with more common roller lamination).
The clear over laminate which traps the items or images being laminated to to the substrate is available in various weights and produces an easy viewing satin finish with the material taking up the texture of the cushioning which is placed over the job during the lamination process. The clear laminate can therefore be embossed depending on the cushioning.
In addition to the unusual uses mentioned above, the vacuum laminater is also ideal for block mounting photographic images or digitally printed images to substrates for indoor or outdoor uses. We are able to block mount images up to 1500 x 2100mm on MDF board for indoor display and framing or on weathertex sheet, colourbond sheet steel or aluminium to create an exceptionally durable outdoor display.
Laminating of our digitally printed vinyl graphics and images onto sheet steel or aluminium is usually done with a non mechanical 'floating on' technique which enables us to laminate images of any size.The result is a glossy, highly UV resistent and water proof outdoor product which would even survive comfortably in the bottom of a pool! Perfectly suited to outdoor displays for businesses as well as taking images of the family or art into the garden environment.
